Stream Litter Clean-Ups

Mission Adopt-A-Block began a stream clean-up initiative in the fall of 2010 to address rising concerns about the litter in the environment, in particular, sensitive aquatic habitats. All litter eventually reaches our waterways by wind or water and this is where litter has the most detrimental impact on our environment. Stream clean-up volunteer efforts raise awareness about the detriments of litter in the environment and help to reduce the amount13102693_1112062808855397_8939134703318415651_n litter that might otherwise cause distress to wildlife in the area.

Adopt-A-Block now includes stream clean-ups as a part of the society’s annual fall clean-up. Groups can choose between participating in a stream clean-up or a regular street side clean-up. Thanks to a grant from Van City, Adopt-A-Block has purchased several pairs of hip waders to aid stream clean-up efforts. These hip waders can now be borrowed from Adopt-A-Block to groups who organize stream clean-ups in Mission above and beyond the society’s scheduled clean-ups.
