Thankful for Mission
Adopt-A-Block Volunteers
The Mission
Adopt-A-Block Society’s
volunteers deserve a big
pat on the back. With
over
400
volunteers
participating in the
litter control program
throughout the calendar
year (both individual
volunteers and group
participants), along
with a dedicated Board
of Directors, the
Society has made great
strides in increasing
litter awareness and in
helping to clean
Mission. These
volunteers have adopted
areas in their
neighborhood that
require constant litter
maintenance and are
provided with equipment
and guidance to make the
job easier and safer.
On average, 60 garbage
bags of litter are
collected off our
streets each month!
However often volunteers
are able to clean-up
litter, some twice a
year, some monthly, and
some on a daily basis,
they have one of the
most challenging, yet
rewarding, tasks. It
takes a lot of
dedication, motivation
and courage to take
responsibility for
litter discarded by
other people, and to
proceed to pick it up
not only in their
neighborhoods but in
strange neighborhoods
as well, and sometimes
in unpleasant weather
conditions. They do this
voluntarily, all for the
health of the
environment, the safety
of our kids, and to
beautify our city. They
can feel good about
doing their part.
Volunteers also get to
enjoy the outdoors and
get some exercise while
doing it! The rewards
are numerous, and
they’re doing it for all
of us in the community.
THANK-YOU!

So, next time you see a
volunteer wearing a
yellow vest and
picking-up litter,
please give them a
HONK! and a
friendly wave of
appreciation. Better
yet, help them out by
becoming a volunteer
yourself! The litter
control program is an
excellent activity to do
not only as an
individual, but as a
family or as a youth
group, sports team or
community group. It’s an
easy activity to add to
your daily walking
route, and will make a
more pleasant walk in
the long run.
You can also help us by
filling out a
Mission
Adopt-A-Block
Survey –
or write to us and tell
us what you think about
the litter problem in
Mission and what you
think could help reduce
the amount of litter in
Mission.
Volunteer today. You
can make a difference!

Volunteer Board
Directors Wanted!
Are you enthusiastic
about volunteer time and
community action? Are
you dedicated to
positive environmental
awareness? Mission
Adopt-A-Block wants to
invite Adopt-A-Block
Volunteers to consider
the position of
Director
on our Board of
Directors. The position
is volunteer and would
require the honest
participation of a
minimum of 2 hours a
month to attend monthly
board meetings and a
possible 3-5 sporadic
hours participation in
community and other
Adopt-A-Block managed
events (such as the
annual Fall Clean-up,
Celebration of
Community, Fraser Valley
Bald Eagle Festival,
Earth Day, etc.). We are
looking for individuals
who share a positive
environmental vision for
Mission and dedicated to
creating a healthier and
positive community
environment. We are
looking for
self-motivated
individuals who share an
interest in
Adopt-A-Block’s on-going
anti-litter campaign and
who feel they can
contribute participation
in and help promote our
environmental message to
“Keep Mission Litter
Free”.
We welcome all dedicated
individuals to come
forward, young and old,
including students, as
it is an excellent
volunteer opportunity
for individuals who wish
to continue in
environmental studies.
